I kept the name in my head and, when it was time to choose a place to spend a few relaxing beach days and away from the mass tourism that floods Thailand, I took it out of memory.
Koh Payam is a pretty place nice and super relaxed. It is not the earthly paradise, nor the perfect beach or other bullshit that are said of so many places in this area. It is also not recommended for anyone looking for a party. But altogether it is an island that is worth visiting and very good if what you want is to relax, read and bathe on the beach, do some kayaking and have a quiet beer to the sound of songs by Bob Marley and Jack Jones.
Although you can walk to some places, the distances are not so small - especially when the midday sun strikes - and it is It is advisable to rent a motorcycle to explore the beaches of the island. The bikes with manual transmission cost 150 B for one day while the automatic ones leave for 250 B. You can refuel gasoline in small shops around the island for between 40 and 45B although with a couple of liters it gives you plenty for almost everything.

Most of the cabins are concentrated in Ao Yai and Ao Wai, although there are other smaller beaches around the island, one of them near the pier.
The prices are really good and we get a bamboo cabin for 200 B a day, with a very basic bathroom. You can find better quality if you raise the budget and some of the places have kayaks, board games and internet for their customers. No need to reserve anything in advance because supply - normally - exceeds demand. It is best to choose the beach where you want to stay and take a motorcycle taxi there, then you simply enter to ask in the series of stacked cabins that you will find.
It was the first place of absolute relaxation after just over 2 months of travel. I stayed on the island for a week and maybe it would have remained longer if the water storms that flooded all of Southern Thailand had not arrived. Of the 7 days, 5 it rained without hardly truce and our patience ended up overflowing.
Even so we traveled the island by motorcycle and spent a whole day with the kayak to discover a couple of beaches that we did not reach with the motorcycle. The water has a greenish blue color. due to the amount of vegetation that is at sea level, which makes it not too good to dive.
A beautiful and relaxed island to get away from mass tourism and enjoy doing nothing. Of course, if it does not rain!
