The city of Aleppo: look where the underground souk begins under the yellow pylons, impossible to say where it ends

During the last weeks looting has been recorded in places declared World Heritage by Unesco as Palmira and Apamea. According to El País, Hiba al-Sakhel, a museum manager in Syria, is aware of acts of pillage in these areas such as clandestine excavations in Palmira and have even received a video that shows people ripping mosaics from hammers in Apamea. Parts of the Hama museum have been stolen, Apamea has been bombed by the army and strong vigilance tries to keep the castle of Crac des Chevaliers intact.

Many of the stolen pieces are then sold in border countries such as Lebanon or Turkey on the black market.

At the end of 2009, I visited Syria on a trip that took me through the Middle East, touring Jordan, Egypt, Israel and Palestine.

From Syria I fell in love with its people -Away from any topic, few places like in Syria I have found such kind and humble people-.

The delicious Syrian cuisine
